Jane Nakaweesi

Jane Nakaweesi is an experienced humanitarian and development worker for the last 15 years. Currently working with African Initiatives for Relief and Development (AIRD) coordinating implementation of humanitarian assistance projects in 12 African countries since 2019.

She has been key in establishing a refugee girls’ education sponsorship program under AIRD, which has so far supported 22 refugees to access basic secondary and university education in the last 7 years.

Previously, Jane worked as a youth rights advocate with Uganda Youth Network where she significantly supported establishment of Youth Advocacy Networks which provided a platform for young people to advocate for their human rights.

In 2018, She co-founded Sustainable Community Initiatives for Empowerment(SCINE) a community led NGO that promotes socio-economic transformation within urban slum communities in Kampala.

Jane is a commonwealth scholar with MA in Refugee protection and forced migration studies from the University of London and a BA in Education from Makerere University. She has since become passionate about refugee and migrant displacement in Africa with a desire to contribute proactively to the promotion of rights of displaced persons.
