Barry N. Thomas

Barry N. Thomas currently holds the position of Director at The Centre for Advancing the Interests of Black People in TCHC. His previous roles within the organization include Assistant General Manager for the Central Region (2019-2022), Operating Unit Manager in St. Lawrence- Bathurst (2017-2019), Regent Park (2010-2017), and Rexdale (2006-2009), as well as Community Safety Consultant (2004-2006).

Before joining TCHC, Barry spent two years as the Principal Consultant at his own company, specializing in Anti-Racism, Diversity Management, and Organizational Development. His clientele included notable organizations such as the Royal Bank, the Urban Alliance on Race Relations, the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Business, C.O. Bick Police College, and several not-for-profit agencies.

His other significant roles include Program Manager at Pro Bono Law Ontario (LSUC) from August 2002 to August 2003, Executive Director of Central Neighbourhood House from April 1998 to January 2000, and the founding Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Police- Race Relations from November 1991 to March 1996.

Barry also served as the Executive Director for the City of North York’s Committee on Community Race and Ethnic Relations from November 1988 to November 1991, and for Tropicana Community Services Organization of Scarborough from October 1985 to October 1988. Tropicana is a service delivery system for Black Youth and is recognized as the largest of its kind in Canada.

In addition, Barry co-produced a video on Multiculturalism for St. Boniface Multicultural Centre in Scarborough from March to August 1985. Born in South Africa, Barry moved to Canada in 1975 and pursued his education at Trent and York Universities.
